Carol Woods and her return to Beekeeping
It was a long year in the life of our PBBA beekeeper, Carol Woods! The year 2025 started out with an order for 2 nucleus packages of bees. Shortly thereafter, tragedy struck from a snow mobile accident on February 15, 2025. Carol was airlifted from Portsmouth Hospital to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Our beekeeper sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized for a long period of time, all the while holding onto her hope of installing those nuc packages in the spring. Carol received assistance from the Beekeepers’ Relief Fund. In addition, with the help of dedicated PBBA members and mentors taking care of her two colonies, and her husband Tim’s help in making sugar water and feeding the colonies – she was able to get the packages installed!
Thankfully, in the early fall; Carol was able to walk down to visit her apiary for the first time. Then on December 14th 2025, which was ten months after the accident, she was able to extract her honey! Carol had hoped that she would be able to give her family and friends some gifts of honey for the Holidays. That wish came true!!She has a long road ahead with physical therapy and healing but has her sights set on tending to her colonies this spring!
